The steering stem is the central component connecting the chassis to the triple clamp and fork, allowing the handlebar to turn and bearing much of the load generated at the front end. This original KTM reference, part of the PowerParts range, is designed for those who need to replace the original component due to wear, impact or after a fall.
It is made from aluminium, a material offering a good balance between strength and weight, reducing unsprung mass compared to steel solutions without compromising the rigidity required in such a demanding area as the steering head. The machining shows the tight tolerances expected of a part that must fit precisely with the steering bearings and the rest of the assembly components.
The photograph shows a cylindrical, elongated part with the matte metallic finish typical of untreated aluminium, with different stepped diameters along its length corresponding to the bearing seating areas and the fixing point to the upper triple clamp. The surface appears smooth and free of coloured coatings, leaving the base material visible.
Fitting an aluminium steering stem with the original KTM fit helps maintain the steering behaviour intended from the factory, avoiding play or irregular operation of the steering bearing that could lead to premature wear of other front-end components.
