The camshaft is the valve-train component responsible for opening and closing the intake and exhaust valves at the precise moment in the engine cycle, a spare part aimed at those carrying out an engine tune-up or rebuild on their KTM.
It is a machined steel shaft, with the cam lobes and bearing journals ground to work within the tight tolerances required by the valve timing. It includes the gear or the seat for the drive element that synchronizes its rotation with the crankshaft, as well as the internal oil passages needed to lubricate the friction points with the rocker arm or tappet.
The photo shows a steel-grey metal shaft, with clearly defined asymmetric cam lobe profiles and bearing surfaces polished to the characteristic shine of precision machining, contrasting with the more matte finish of the rest of the body.
Fitted in place of a worn camshaft, it restores the factory-specified valve timing to the engine, with the same tolerances as an original KTM camshaft.
