This is a spare part for KTM's exhaust system, aimed at riders who regularly ride on track and need to keep the silencer's sound level within the required limits. This type of insert is a consumable part fitted inside the silencer body that loses part of its effectiveness with use.
Its construction is based on a heat-resistant absorbent material, designed to dampen the sound wave of the exhaust gases as they pass through the silencer. Being a component exposed to high temperatures and constant vibration, its performance decreases with hours of use, which is why the manufacturer includes its replacement as part of routine exhaust maintenance.
The photo shows an elongated, cylindrical piece, light in color with a fibrous finish, characteristic of the noise-damping filler materials used in racing exhausts.
Replacing this insert once it has degraded restores the silencer to its original sound level, which is especially important in events and circuits with noise control.
