This O-ring is a small sealing element used at various points on the engine and the bike's fluid circuits, wherever a joint between two surfaces needs sealing or a bolt, fitting or plug needs to be kept free of fluid or pressure leaks. Within the KTM PowerParts catalogue, this O-ring belongs to the sealing and fastening components.
Its own designation indicates its size: a 10 millimetre inner diameter and a 1.5 millimetre cross-section. It is made from NBR70, a nitrile rubber with a 70 Shore hardness, a material commonly used in automotive and motorcycling O-rings for its good resistance to hydrocarbons, oils and fuels, as well as to continuous compression.
The photo shows a black rubber ring with a round cross-section and a smooth surface, with no visible marking, as is typical of this type of sealing component.
Its function is to prevent leaks and maintain the seal at the point where it is fitted, so it should be replaced every time the part it accompanies is removed, since the rubber loses elasticity with use and heat.
