This noise reduction insert is part of KTM's exhaust system spare parts range, designed for riders who use their bike on track or circuit and need to keep the silencer within appropriate sound level limits. It is a wear part that sits inside the silencer body and should be checked and replaced periodically depending on how the bike is used.
It is made from an absorbent felt-like or mineral wool material, able to withstand the high temperatures of the exhaust gases and maintain its sound-damping function throughout the part's service life. As riding hours accumulate, this material compacts and loses absorption capacity, which results in a progressive increase in the exhaust's sound level.
The photo shows an elongated cylindrical piece, light in color and with a fibrous texture, typical of the noise-damping filler materials used in sport silencers.
Replacing this insert when needed restores the silencer's original sound level and helps avoid penalties on circuits or events where noise emissions are monitored.
