Adjustment

The steering damper has three external adjustment possibilities, i.e. the adjustment of the buffer valve (1), the high-speed valve (2) and the sweep valve (3), which regulate the buffer range.

Damping valve

The Öhlins or Scotts steering damper is supplied with the dampening valve ( 1), which is adjusted in a basic position which provides the maximum basic damping. For Enduro and Motocross it is favorable to adjust the buffer valve in position 7-8 from the position completely turned out in the sense of the clock needles, according to the terrain and the pilot. Turning in the sense of the clock needles increases damping and turning against the sense of the clock needles reduces damping.

WARNING: To avoid liquid loss, never open more than two full spins. If the pressure of damping is deactivated, that is, approx. 20 clicks in the opposite sense of the clock needles, there is still a buffer effect in case of rapid movements as the high-speed valve effect.

High-speed valve

The high-speed valve ( 2) fits between 1 1/4 and 2 spins from the bottom position, suitable for Enduro, Motocross and Rally. For all trips the high-speed valve must be screwed at least 1 spin from below. Turning in the sense of the clock needles increases damping and turning against the sense of the clock needles reduces damping.

Removing control sweep

Wire damping controls (3) are found on each side of the damping body. Damping is reached in position 2 (12 hours) in case of a supply of Öhlins or Scotts. This fit is suitable for Enduro, Motocross and Rally. WARNING: both sweep damping controls must always be placed in the same position. Always use the position according to the clock.

Maintenance and inspection The steering damper is a precision instrument with extremely thin tolerances. That is why it is important to maintain it properly. Maintenance and service should be performed by an official Öhlins or Scotts dealership. Clean it with a rag after washing the motorcycle and spray it with a universal oil. WARNING: Never expose it to a high-pressure wash, as water could penetrate the damper.

Liquid and service

Make sure that a liquid loss does not occur and there is no visible damage to the housing and the mounted parts. Change the liquid periodically. With new dampers after 10 hours of journey and after 20 hours of tour respectively. If the damper needs a service, Öhlins or Scotts dealers have the right tools and know-how for the solution of all technical problems.
