This connecting link is the part that closes a drive chain cut to the length required for the bike, available within the KTM PowerParts transmission spares range in the 1/2x1/4" format, corresponding to the pitch and roller width of larger-section chains than those used on smaller-displacement bikes.
Its construction follows the usual design of a detachable connecting link: two side plates that fit onto the roller pins at the ends of the chain and are closed with a retaining clip, so that the assembly becomes one more link within the chain.
The photograph shows the metallic finish of the plates and the closing clip, with the pins protruding to hold the rollers and the omega-shaped clip fitted over them on the outer side, a detail that makes it easy to identify at a glance as a detachable joint rather than a riveted one.
This type of link makes it easy to close a new chain of the same pitch and width, as well as to replace a damaged connecting link, without the need for riveting to complete the assembly.
