The kick-starter idler assembly is the replacement engine mechanism that allows the kick-start lever to rotate in only one direction when operating the kick starter. It is part of the PowerParts engine spares range and is used to replace the complete assembly when the mechanical starting system loses effectiveness or slips.
It is made up of machined steel components that work together through a ratchet or roller system, so that rotation is only transmitted in the starting direction and runs free in the opposite direction. The contact surfaces are machined with the precision needed to fit together without play.

In operation, this assembly prevents the engine from spinning the lever backwards once started, allowing for smooth, direct mechanical starting every time the kick starter is used.
