This cylinder base gasket is an engine spare part for KTM that sits between the crankcase and the base of the cylinder, ensuring a seal in one of the most heavily stressed areas of the engine assembly. It is a part worth keeping in mind whenever the cylinder is removed, whether for an engine overhaul or to replace internal components.
It is a flat gasket cut following the cylinder's perimeter, with the corresponding passages for the fixing bolts and for the lubrication and coolant ducts that connect crankcase and cylinder. As this contact surface is subject to pressure and thermal expansion while the engine is running, the gasket must retain its integrity to prevent any oil from leaking out.
The image shows a thin, light-coloured sheet of even thickness and smooth surface, with a clean cut that follows the cylinder's geometry and the exact position of each passage hole.
Fitting a new gasket every time the cylinder is worked on prevents leaks and ensures that bolt torque is distributed evenly across the whole contact surface, keeping the engine sealed over time.
