The magnetic drain plug is the part that seals the drain hole of the motorcycle's sump or oil reservoir, incorporating a magnet at its inner end to capture the metal particles released from the engine during break-in and use.
It is an M8X12 bolt with an ISA40 head, made of metal, with the magnet built into the tip that sits in direct contact with the oil inside the sump, so that fine metal shavings stick to it instead of circulating through the lubrication circuit.
The photo shows a metal bolt with a hexagonal head, a threaded shank and, at the tip, the magnet visible as a darker-toned element fixed to the end.
Fitting this drain plug back in place when changing the oil restores a tight seal on the sump and, thanks to the magnet, helps keep the oil cleaner of metal particles between oil changes.
