This size 40 idle jet is the calibrated jet that controls fuel flow in the idle circuit of the KTM carburettor, responsible for metering the mixture at low engine speeds and during the initial throttle opening transitions.
It is a small threaded part, with a central duct precisely calibrated according to its numbering, in this case size 40. It features a slotted head for a flat-blade screwdriver, allowing it to be fitted and removed from the carburettor body without the need for special tools.
The photo shows a gold-toned, polished metal part, with the slotted head at the top and the threaded body at the bottom, where the calibrated orifice that regulates fuel flow is located.
Replacing the idle jet with one of a different number allows the engine's behaviour at low revs to be fine-tuned, making it a common part in fine carburetion adjustment.
